Wincler, William 1 m age 16-26, 1 f age 16-26 (Nancy), 1 m under 10 (Henry), 3f under 10 (Polly, Clarinda, Nancy) if birth dates are off - or there were other daughters)

1830 Census, Estill Co. p.245. Wm. Winkler, 1m age 30-40; 1f age 70-80. I assume living with his mother

William Winkler m. Nancy Noland. July 4, 1814. Madison Co KY. Richard Morton, Bondsman.
19 Oct 1836. William Winkler vs. Nancy Winkler, whereas Williams Winkler intermarried with a Nancy Noland, lived with her for several years, she abandoned her bed and now is more than 13 years since his wife abandoned him.
Note: If indeed Nancy had left William thirteen years earlier in 1823, then it's likely some of the children were not his, particularly my ancestor, daughter Nancy whose grave marker gives her birth in 1825.
DNA has changed the whole perspective on this situation. I have matches to at least two people who have Winkler descent occurring earlier than William - and I do not match them in any other time or place. One of the matches descends from an aunt of William Winkler's. There seems to be little doubt William Winkler was likely the father of all of Nancy Noland Winkler's children. William may have exaggerated when he stated Nancy had moved out 13 years previously. Nancy could even have been pregnant at the time of the divorce based on ages of some of her children. Nancy Noland Winkler had no more children after daughter Nancy and did not marry again. It appears William may already have had a daughter by Margaret Farthing before he married her. Certainly he wanted out of his marriage to Nancy. That he wa indeed my ancestor has also been proved by the atDNA of descendants of his children by Margaret Farthing that are a match to me.

22 Jul 1839 gave deposition for his mother Mrs. Susannah Winkler to receive her husband's revolutionary pension. Stated age was 41.

At least one database listed Sally as a child of Nancy Noland - I believe she was Margaret's child. Perhaps born before the couple married. William's acquaintance with Margaret Farthing, may have been the catalyst for filing for his divorce from Nancy Noland.

1860 Estill Co. William and Margaret had two more children listed in this census.

The will of a William Winkler in Daviess Co, KY is not this man. Named wife as "Nancy B." and lived on waters of Blackford in Daviess Co. He had two infant heirs, Harry & Harless. Other heirs, John H. B. and Davies Franklin Winkler. If wife is not living, all can be divided when the youngest reaches 18. All of my heirs, wife Nancy, F. H. B. , Davies Franklin, Martha, Jane, Harry, Harless Winkler. Three oldes sons to be executors. 16 day of ___ 1887. Signed: Wm. Winkler.
