NANCY E. WINKLER

(15 Sep 1825 - 1 Mar 1853)

Goodspeed's article gives her name as Mary C., but she was called Nancy in the marriage record. He had also confused her mother's name. I believe they were both Nancy. Her grave marker has her name as Nancy E.

William Winkler, son of Henry Winkler & Susannah Ross did marry Nancy Noland, 4 Jul 1814 in Madison Co KY.
He sued her for divorce: 19 Oct 1836. William Winkler vs. Nancy Winkler, whereas Williams Winkler intermarried with a Nancy Noland, lived with her for several years, she abandoned her bed and now is more than thirteen years since his wife abandoned him.
Note: If indeed Nancy had left William thirteen years earlier in 1823, then it's likely two or three of her children were not his, particularly this daughter Nancy whose grave marker gives her birth as 1825. He was not with the family in 1830. He married again to Margaret Farthing in 1840 and is in the Estill Co KY census with her and their children in 1850. His ex-wife did not marry again. Daughter Nancy did marry as a Winkler, however. There is no way now to prove if he was her father.
