His middle name was found in some of my grandmother's writings.
Went to Missouri about age 24.
1850 Schuyler County Mo Census:
Wood, Wm 34 male farmer KY
Nancy 27 female KY
Joseph 8 male MO
Mahala Asbell 20 female KY (dau of Ross Asbell & 2nd wife)
September, 1852 - went to Benton County, Ark.; bought land near Uniontown, Crawford County AR
1853 - Went back to Schuyler County, Mo; then brought family back to AR First wife is said to have died in AR; married Susan Biswell. Her parents also went to Crawford Co AR.
Moved to Iowa near close of Civil War; then farmed in Douglas County KA before returning to Crawford County.
Land Patents found in Crawford County, AR. 80 acres 1 Mar 1860; 80 acres 1 May 1861 (Abraham Lincoln, President); 80 acres 30 Jun 1876. These were all in Section 20 of Township 10.
1860 Census. Crawford Co AR. William Wood, age 44, b. KY. Sarah M. age 22, b. MO. Joseph age 18, b. MO and John age 3. His brother Thomas was next door.

James A Biswell was in Section 18, just to the northwest.
1870 Census in Crawford Co with Susan, John, Martha, Minnie & George - all have initials only.
1880 Census in Jasper Twp, Crawford Co. He gave his age as 64, b. KY; his father born in PA and his mother b. VA. Susan M. Wood, b. 43 in AR, birth place of father & mother "unknown". Martha J. age 19, Minnie D. age 15, George M age 11, Charles A. age 5, and Brown L. age 3.
Buried in Woods Cemetery, Van Buren AR. Name spelled Woods in "History in Headstones". This cemetery is in the Philadelphia community on Wood's original homestead. A photo reveals that his stone does say "Wm. M. Wood"
