Death
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH Mr. James Martin Furr of 214 Seacrest Drive, Wrightsville Beach, NC, died on Sunday, July 21, 1996, in Cape Fear Memorial Hospital. He was born in Charlotte, NC, on September 20, 1910, son of the late Beechum Zerobie and Carrie Black Furr. Mr. Furr participated in the founding of Furr's Seed Store, Nursery, and Landscaping operations in Charlotte, NC, and served as President of J. M. Furr Landscaping Contractor, Inc. He was instrumental in the planning and development of many Charlotte-Mecklenburg recreational parks. “Daddy Jim”, as he was affectionately known, was an avid golfer who loved every aspect of the game, and won many championships. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Miriam Coulter Furr of the home; children, James Stephen Furr and wife, Barbara, Mrs. Miriam Furr Lucas and husband, Hollis, Daniel Scott Furr and wife, Jeaneen of Wilmington, and Ms. Bonnie Marie Buck of Marco Island, FL; grandchildren, James Stephen Furr Jr., Daniel Scott Furr Jr., David Bryan Bensch, Andrew Martin Furr, Andrea Marie Bell, Stefani Leigh Furr, Nicole Annette Bensch, Russell Brian Furr and Daneen Ashley Furr; great-grandchildren, Savannah Marie Furr, Amber Nicole Chandler and Sierra Nicole Bell; sisters and brothers, Madelyn F. Hartsell, Boyette Furr of Charlotte, NC; Conrad Furr of Lake Wylie, SC, and Carroll Furr of Charlotte, NC. Mr. Furr was a charter member of Covenant Church where his funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m, Wednesday, July 24, 1996, in Covenant Church by the Rev. Jeff Kennedy. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Mr. Furr’s grandson's, James Stephen Furr Jr., Daniel Scott Furr Jr., David Bryan Bensch, Andrew Martin Furr, Russell Brian Furr and Charles Bell. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday in Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd.
