Death
Miriam Alice Coulter Furr, 91, of Wilmington, NC, died peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Champions Assisted Living. She was born in Charlotte, NC, on January 15, 1918, to the late Fred Garland and Alice Rhoney Coulter. She attended Charlotte Mecklenburg public schools and Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church. Miriam married James Martin Furr on February 22, 1936, and they celebrated 60 years together before his passing on July 21, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Bonnie Marie Furr, in 1996. Miriam and Jim, affectionately known as Mama Miriam and Daddy Jim, became permanent residents of Wrightsville Beach in 1982 and active members of the community. Surviving are her children, James Stephen Furr and wife, Barbara, Mrs. Miriam Furr Lucas and husband, Hollis, and Daniel Scott Furr and wife, Jeaneen. Her nine grandchildren are James Stephen Furr, Jr., Daniel Scott Furr, Jr., David Bryan Bensch, Andrew Martin Furr, Andrea Marie Bell, Stephanie Leigh Furr, Nicole Annette Seitz, Russell Brian Furr, and Daneen Ashley Furr. Miriam is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, Amber Nicole Chandler, Elody Marie Bensch, Sophia Lucille Bensch, Hailey Madison Bensch, Sierra Nicole Bell, Alexa Martin Bell, Charles Lucas Bell, Olivia Grace Seitz, Coulter Brian Seitz, Savannah Marie Furr, Andrew Martin Furr, Jr., Landen Scott Furr, Daniel John Furr, Jack Tucker Furr, and Madeline Louise Furr. Miriam is survived by two sisters, Bonnie Coulter Pack and husband, Brownie, Wilmington, NC, and Linda Coulter Guin and husband, Al, Charlotte, NC. Miriam was a Charter member of Covenant Church, where her praise and worship memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 11:00a.m. by Pastor Jim Davis. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. The Pallbearers will be her five grandsons. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at 2344 Scotts Hill Loop Road. Memorials may be made to Covenant Church, 210 Station Road, Wilmington, NC 28405. The family would like to thank the staff at Champions Assisted Living and Jean and Roxanne of Spring Air Home Care for the excellent care they provided. The family would also like to recognize Miriam's granddaughter, Stephanie, for her dedication to her grandmother. Mama Miriam's legacy will live on in our hearts and our actions and our children.
