Death
ALBEMARLE — Alonzo Shuford Furr, 90, of 1132 Efird St., died at 1010 p.m Monday in Rowan Memorial Hospital, Salisbury. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church, conducted by Elder Rom Kerley and Elder Guy Parks. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, on Wednesday night from 7 to 9. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Born April 12, 1895, in Stanly County, he was a son of the late Andrew Jenkins and Tina Bowers Furr. A retired barber, he was formerly owner and operator of Piedmont Barber Shop and former co-owner of Sanitary Barber Shop. A member of Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church, he was a former secretary of Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church Association and had served as secretary and treasurer of the Furr Memorial Foundation. His wife, Novella Hathcock Furr, preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John (Faye) Sherrill of Salisbury and Mrs. James (Elvena) Peck of Route 1, Albemarle, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.Endnotes
