Death

Mr. Claude Gamalia Furr, of 1300 Bevis Drive, Charlotte, died October 7, 1980. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of Charlotte 10 AM. October 9, 1980. Dr. Carl Bates officiated. A 30-minute state preceded the service. Burial was in Canton Baptist Church Cemetery of Albemarle, Stanly County. Mr. Furr was born February 25, 1925 in Stanly County, N.C., son of Alonzo Shuford Furr and Novella Hathcock Furr, both of Albemarle, N.C. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a Deacon. He served as Vice Chairman of Deacons 1978-1979. He taught the Stewards Class. Mr. Furr was a Gideon and a Mason, a member of Parents Board of Meredith College, was licensed as a real estate broker in N.C, S.C. and Georgia and was a WW II Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Furr was President of Commercial Management, doing business as Days Inn. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Mrs. Louvine Poplin Furr; a son, Chipley B. “Chip” Furr of Charotte; a daughter, Miss Claudia Shawn Furr of Charlotte; two sisters, Mrs. Jimmy Peck of Albemarle and Mrs. John Sherrill of Salisbury. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons and Stewards of First Bapist Church. Active pallbearers will be Sam McMahon, David Wilson, Mike Batts, Jim Cannon, A. B. Dale, Denny Spears, Clifford Tuck and Manley McWilliams. Arrangements by Hartsell of Albemarle.
