Andrew J. Furr, 79-year-old retired farmer of Albemarle, route 4, died Tuesday morning about 5:15 at his home. Mr. Furr, a widely known resident of the section, had been in very poor health for the past three years, having suffered a number of strokes during that period. He was a son of the late Aaron and Sarah Hatley Furr and was born in the community in which he lived his entire life. He was married 59 years ago to the former Miss Tina Bowers, who survives. He was a member of Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist church. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Bear Creek Primitive Baptist church, conducted by Elder C. M. Mills, assisted by Elder Jason Eudy. Interment was made in the church cemetery. In addition to his wife, Mr. Furr is survived by four sons, A. S. Furr of Albemarle; W. R. and A. C. Furr of Albemarle, route 3, and C. J. Furr of Albemarle, route 4; three daughters, Misses Sarah Jane, Bertha Ellen, and Dora Mae of the home; a brother, G. P. Furr of Arizona; and three sisters, Mrs. L. A. Herrin of Albemarle, route 4, Mrs. Maggie Tucker of Oakboro, and Mrs. U.S. Burleyson of Albemarle.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, June 29, 1951
