Charles was a farmer residing in the Harris area for all of his life, a member of the Modern Woodman or Happy Hooligans as they were sometimes called. He had a great interest in new machinery of the time, owned a threshing rig, and according to his daughter, Mildred, worked on windmills.
Charles and Christine were married July 6, 1892 at Harris. They had nine children, the last a baby boy who was born and died March 15, 1909. Christine died three days later as a result of complications following the birth leaving Charles with eight children, ages 2 to 17.

Hulda, who had been born in Tived, Örebro, Sweden, had been living in Minneapolis but was spending time in the Harris area with her sister, Anna Levin, following the death of her five year old son, Carl Dahlberg. Charles and Hulda were married in August 1909 and had one child, Mildred, who was born in 1912. The marriage lasted only a short time. and their child, Mildred, was raised by her mother. Hulda married again, first to S. A. Sederlund and second to Axel Erickson, and had three more children. She died at the age of 79 in 1959.
According to his death certificate, Charles suffered a cerebral hemorrhage two years and eight months prior to his death which had left him paralized and confined to bed.
