Lewis Pearson Pippin

Lewis had 100 acres of land on Blackburn's Fork of Roaring River. Entry #718, 9 Jan 1826. James Dyer & Edmund Finn, his brother-in-law, were chain carriers. Lewis purchased 25 acres on Martins Creek & Guins Fork on 3 Feb 1834. His brothers Joseph & William Pippin were chain carriers for that survey.

Taken up by Lewis Pippin. One red barrow and 2 other barrows, white & black spotted, red and black spotted. 22 Jul 1834.
Taken up by Liewis Pipkin 1 bay mare, 15 hand high, left hind foot white, about 10 years. Valued $45. 11 Oct 1842. Proven away.

Family found in 1850 Census, Jackson County, TN with young wife Rebecca and year old son Daniel. Older children except for the mysterious and questionable America are all there. Jane had died about 1847 - she is buried Salem Cemetery, Putnam Co. Lewis & Jane had 9 children. The (2) wife was Rebecca Sarah Morphew, daughter of Daniel Morphew & Amy Grimes. Lewis & Rebecca had four children. After the death of Lewis, Rebecca moved to Kentucky with her children.
Lewis is buried Whitson Cemetery, Putnam Co. It was originally called the Lewis Pippin Burying Ground and set aside for members of his family but after the death of Lewis, the property came into the hands of the Whitson family and the name of the cemetery was changed.
