Willis purchased 5 acres on Bowerman's Branch of Roaring River 31 Aug 1818. It included a salt petre cave found by Zachariah Roberts & Said Pippin.

Willis puchased 100 acres from the State of TN, 1 Jan 1826, Grant #633. This land was in Jackson Co on the waters of Blackburn's Fork of Roaring River and bounded by his other lands.

Willis Pippin entered 200 acres on Blackburn's Fork of Roaring Rive. Begin corn of sd Pippin's on William Loftis line. 13 May 1833.
This land was Grant #2061 and adjoined his other purchases including 100 acres & said Pippins dwelling house. Chain carriers were his brothers William & James.

This parcel was surveyed 21 Apr 1826 on the waters of Blackburns fork of Roaring River. Bounded by William Luteys east boundary; a conditional line between said Pippin & William Youngblood; a second conditional line on the back of the creek near the mouth of a lane between Pippin and Youngblood's farm; crossing the creek. Includes part of said Pippin's improvement. Granted 7 Nov 1827.

1850 Census as "William" Pippin, born North Carolina. Age given same as his wife's in 1850 - 53.

Name given as William Willis in some references, but there was another son William.

Served as private in the War of 1812 in the Tennessee Militia. The first tour of duty was in Capt Hallimon's Company, 1st Regt [Wynn's] West TN Militia for Oct 1813 to Jan 1814 in Genl Jackson's campaign against the Creek Indians. His second tour was in Capt Mathew Cowen's Company, 3rd Regt [Roulston's] TN Militia from 13 Nov 1814 to 13 May 1815. He was with Genl. Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans and awarded a land Warrant for 160 acres. His warrant was received at the land office in Shawneetown IL on 26 Mar 1852.


The book "Pippin Pathways", p.12, stated he died about 1865. However son James was administrator of his mother Milly's estate on 18 Dec 1854 indicating she was a widow when she died. Found in "Tennessee Tidbits 1778-1914", Vol 1, compiled by Marjorie Hood Fischer: Willis Pippin died before 9 Dec 1856 when Administrator James Pippin was involved in a case [Putnam TN Circuit Court Minutes no#/p.440] Additional research is needed in these court records.

A document dated 30 Jul 1853 in Putnam Co mentions land adjoining the Land of Willis Pippin heirs, so he had died prior to that date.
