Monroe Journal, Friday, February 9, 1923
Mr. Fulton Furr is now constable of Vance township, having succeeded Mr. Will Pressley, who recently resigned . . . .
As a youngster my mother loved to drive to Union County to show us where she grew up and where her grandfather and grandmothers Home was located. The home had been torn down by the time we visited but Henry Marshall Furr and Laura Hunter Furr’s oldest son Fulton Furr lived across the road from the Home place until his death. I remember being barefoot as we visited sometimes with other relatives or friends and explored the farm. They had milk cows, chickens and a mule. Uncle Fulton plowed with his mule until past the time when most men had died or retired. They had a cellar which was dug out beneath the unpainted home where canned vegetables and fruits were stored. Aunt Miranda didn’t talk to the children much but occasionally uncle Fulton would talk to us. My mother loved the visits and we enjoyed the stories of the “olden “ days about her time as a child She was happy to get off the farm and in to the city because of the hard work on the farm which was the case with many farm children. His property is covered with expensive homes and his home has long gone. The memories were great as a child and I always will remember the good times we enjoyed.
