Death

Locust, June 11. – George P. Furr, a prominent farmer of this section, answered the final call early Friday evening. Cancer of the stomach was the cause of his death. Mr. Furr was a faithful member of the Baptist church and his place there among his neighbors will be missed. He lacked only a few days of reaching his 75th birthday. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from Beulah church, internment followed in the cemetery. Rev. Ross, pastor of the deceased, assisted by Revs. E. C. Cooper and T. D. Teeter, officiating. Grandsons acted as pallbearers, and grand-daughters, with the assistance of a number of other girls, directed by Miss Selma Austin, a niece, were the flower-bearers. A lovely blanket of flowers, as gift of the children, overspread the casket. Other floral gifts by relatives and friends were in great abundance and very lovely. Surviving are his second wife, seven children, one brother, J. A. Furr, of Stanfield, and three sisters, Mesdames Alex Green and T. J. Coggins of Albemarle, and Ransom Little of Concord. The daughters are Mesdames J. S. Osborne of this place, Albert Widenhouse of Concord, route 5, P. M. Turner of this vicinity, Ray Dunlap of Norwood, and Bruce of Oakboro. A step-son also survives.
