Death
Locust, Jan. 7. — Mrs. Cleonia Furr Osborne, widow of the late Jason Osborne, who was stricken some 18 days previously with paralysis, succumb on Saturday morning about 6:15. All her children but one had been at her bedside continuously throughout her illness and had contributed everything possible to her comfort and relief. Read Prov. 31:28 and apply. Lt. Woodworth Osborne, who is superintendent of aviation, Gunner Field, in Panama City, Fla., was contacted on Saturday morning and arrived here Sunday p. m. Mrs. Osborne was a daughter of the late George and Mrs. Adeline Biggers Furr and had reached the age of 62 years, 1 months, 11 days. She was married in the Baptist church here on March 17, 1906 to Jason S. Osborne in a double-ceremony, the other couple being Miss Ada Burris and Ivy Shankle. For more than half a century she had been a devoted member and leader in the Baptist church of this place, having consecrated her life to the service of the Master at the age of 12. In the early years of the church she supported it by her service as superintendent and teacher in the Sunday school, and continued to attend the services regularly until her Savior said, “It is enough, come up higher.” Prior to her marriage she taught in the public schools of the county and was interested in all affairs of the community. Surviving are six sons: Garrison, Dwight, Biard, Woodworth, Welton and Brock and one daughter Mrs. Brady Hinson, all of this place and community, excepting the third son mentioned at first. Two sisters, Mrs. J. A. Widenhouse and Mrs. P. M. Turner, both of Cabarrus county and one brother, Sylvester Furr, and eight grand children. Brock, the youngest son, was not able to attend the funeral because of illness. Last rites which had been deferred for the arrival of the son from Florida, were held Monday at 2:30 from the Baptist church in charge of the pastor, Rev. McGinnis, assisted by Rev. M. L. Ross, a former pastor, who was principal speaker, Rev. C. C. Honeycutt and Rev. J. D. Griffin. Each one paid beautiful tribute to the deceased. Rev. Ross also presided at the piano and a mixed choir sang the requested hymns which included “God Will Take Care of You,” “Does Jesus Care?,” “In the Sweet By and By.” The beautiful and magnificent floral offering was borne by 21: Mrs. Bertie Barbee, Mrs. Della Kluttz, Mrs. Harry Little, Willie Rummage, Hazel Little, Mrs. Mary Barbee, Doris, Pattie and Bobbie Tucker, Mrs. Mary Hartsell, Miss Mary Lee Crayton, Willie Laurel Helms, Rachel Hartsell, Mary Barbee, Nina Smith, Mrs. Gladys Hinson, Pauline and Helen Hatley and Lorene Caudle. These were directed by Miss Ruby Tucker and Mrs. A. J. Furr. The family blanket was of pink and red rose buds and ferns. Pallbearers were A. J. Furr, L. J. Little, P. E. Tucker, T. M. Hartsell, F. J. Barnhardt and L. M. Crayton. The honorary escort included Artie Eudy, D. A. Treece, J. B. Joyner, R. P. Smith, J. S. Polk, A. T. Simpson, G. A. Tucker, Marvin Teeter, H. S. Eudy, Coy Barbee and D. M.
