Beulah Pederson was born March 25, 1917 in Lincoln County, east of Hendricks, to Christian and Anna Thoreson Pederson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Free Church. She completed her eighth grade education in School District #51, and then worked as a hired girl for several families. She married Alfred Skovly on December 10, 1938 at Hendricks, and they farmed near Astoria until their retirement to Hendricks, in 1975. She was formerly a member of Wood Lake and Bethel Lutheran Churches and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church at the time of her death. She was an active member of the ladies aid and circle and enjoyed singing Norwegian with the Norsk Dame Kor while that group was in existence.
Beulah and Alfred are the parents of four children: Beverly (Mrs. Melvin Johnson) of Astoria, SD, Louise (Mrs. Leon Gadbois) of Holyoke, MA, Leonard of Estelline, and Helen (Mrs. Roger Squires) of Hayti, SD.
Beulah died Friday, December 14, 1990 at the Hendricks Hospital at the age of 73 years.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks with Pastors Trom and Sogge officiating.
“The King is Coming” and “I’d Rather Have Jesus” were sung by Lena Blake and the organist was Julie Midtaune. The congregation hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “Rock of Ages”.
Pallbearers were Dale, Gail, Kenny and Todd Johnson, Duane Clauson and Harris Ueland.
Burial was in the Hendricks Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred, their four children, 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alvin Pederson, and two sisters, Clara Morseth and Hilda Pederson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers, and one great-grandson.
