Alvin C Pederson

Funeral services for Alvin C. Pederson, age 87, of Hendricks, MN, were held Saturday, October 19, 2002 at Christ Lutheran Church, Hendricks, MN., with Reverend Duane Baun officiating. Organist was Julie Hogie and soloist was Duane Hogie.
Pallbearers were Gail Johnson, Todd Johnson, Dan Lewis, Ron Skovly, Marty Skovly, and Lynn Vick. Burial was in the East Hendricks Cemetery with military rites by the Reuben Hansen American Legion Post #195 of Hendricks.
Alvin was born June 9, 1915 in Hendricks Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota, the son of Christian and Anna Thoreson Pederson. He was baptized as an infant and was confirmed in the Lutheran Free Church in 1931. He attended school in district #51, east of Hendricks.
He married Grace Christianson on Dec. 16, 1940, and they lived on a farm east of Hendricks. He and Grace were the parents of 3 children: Gladys, Carroll, and Janice (Mrs. Roger) Vick.
Alvin served in the army during World War II, and spent considerable time recuperating in an army hospital in Colorado before returning home. He lived his entire life in Hendricks, except when he was gone during the war, and was a dedicated employee of the Hendricks Farmers Elevator for over 30 years. When he retired, he enjoyed meeting friends and visiting at a local gas station or café, and going for drives in the country.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, a life member of the American Legion and VFW, was proud to be a charter member of the Sons of Norway, and enjoyed attending their meetings. He was also proud to be a Norwegian and liked to correspond with relatives there, and several people from Norway visited his family in the United States.
He entered the nursing home on March 18, 2002, and passed away there Monday, October 14, 2002.
Alvin is survived by one sister, Hilda Pederson of Hendricks, MN.; 2 sisters-in-law: Myrtle Pederson of Huntington Beach, CA, and Luella Pederson of Hendricks, MN.; a son-in-law, Roger Vick, of Hendricks, MN; 3 nephews: Milan Pederson of Schaumburg, IL., Clifton Pederson of Huntington Beach, CA., and Leonard Skovly of Estelline, SD; 3 nieces: Beverly Johnson of Astoria, SD, Louise Gadbois of Holyoke, MA, and Helen Squires of Hayti, SD., and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace, who died in 1963; daughter, Gladys, who died in 1943; son, Carroll, who died in 1979, and daughter, Janice, who died in 1994; brothers: Eddie and Nels; sisters, Beulah Skovly, Alice Morken, & Clara Morseth.
