Individual Details
(May 28, 1842 - June 1, 1907)
Married first to James Rice Crouch and later to a cousin of hers by the name of Nathan Petty. Another cousin, George, shot Nathan over the love of her and she later married someone else. Aunt Minty, as she was called, was a small lady and was no doubt a great flirt. While unlucky in marriage, she left some very smart daughters who were responsible for much of this Petty history. One of her daughters, Mrs. Belle Gover, lived until 1951. One of her granddaughters came from Oregon before she died and spent one month with Mrs. Gover taking facts and dates of this Petty history. As far as we have been able to check on it, everything and every date has proven to be correct. She had a remarkable memory, as did many of the other older Pettys. Another grand-daughter, Mrs. Eddie Voight lives in Austin and has a museum of relics that is well worth anyone's time to go wee at 1501 E. 13th Street, Austin, Texas. Aunt Minty is buried at Kelsey, in Upshur County, Texas.
Nathan married Arminta and deserted her. He then married another woman in Dallas and left her. She later gave birth to Ed Petty. Nathan returned to Arminta before she gave birth to their son, Joseph Aden Petty. However, Nathan never saw either of his sons as he was shot by cousin George. Nathan had a brother, John Petty of San Antonio, Texas.
