Joseph Riley Petty

(January 7, 1843 - June 24, 1907)

Joseph Riley Petty married Martha Elizabeth and had 9 children. Descendants of this couple are found all over West Texas from the Panhandle to California. One source states that he did not actually serve in the Confederate Way but served the government as a Patrolman later on. He drew a pension later for having served in the capacity. Riley is buried in the Pettytown Cemetery, but his wife is buried in Bell County. Another source states that he enlisted in Uvalde Co with Co F Mounted Reg, Under Capt Hyman T Edgar. Attained rank of 4th corporal.
