Individual Details
Samuel Dawson Petty
(March 2, 1839 - May 30, 1905)
Samuel Dawson Petty enlisted in Caldwell Co with Lone Star Mounted Rifles, 25th Bgd, under the command of Capt. John Mye.
Samuel Dawson Petty married Mary Huddleston and had 4 children. Uncle Sam was perhaps the least adventurous of all the Petty boys. He lived all of his life on a place that adjoined that of his father's homestead. It was with him and Aunt Mary that Grandpa Petty lived after the death of his wife, Elizabeth. Uncle Sam was a religious man and a member of the Masonic Lodge. His home was always open to orphan children or older ones who had no place to stay. After the early death of John Jr., Uncle Sam and Aunt Mary kept the two younger children of John's in their home. He and Aunt Mary are buried in the Pettytown Cemetery.
