Individual Details
Nathan Petty
(1848 - 1868)
Nathan married Arminta and deserted her, married a woman in Dallas and she later gave birth to Ed Petty. Nathan returned to Arminta before she gave birth to Joseph. One morning he was milking the cow when his cousin George Petty rode up. Apparently, Nathan and George had a previous argument that needed to be settled. Nathan called to Arminta and told her to bring him his gun. When she was about half way to him, George drew on the unarmed Nathan, the bullet striking him in the stomach. It was said that George knew Nathan could out draw him in a fair fight. Nathan lived a short while, dying about three weeks before his son was born. It is probable that Nathan died in the latter part of 9/1868 and buried in the Red Rock, TX area. It is also said that Nathan had a brother, John Petty, of San Antonio, TX.
