On his World War 1 draft registration card he stated that he was born on July 11, 1883. His 1915 Kansas state census entry states he was born in 1883.Miscnote
According to his niece, Lillian Shaw, Dave Smith, was artistic and musical. He also was a gambler, i.e., risk taker in business.Census (family)
They were living with their children and his brother's family at 15 Avenue E East. They owned the house and he was a retail clothing merchant. He had married Lena (Unknown maiden name) in 1901. Lena had been previously married with two children who were adopted by Dave Smith (Esther and Ida). According to Lillian Shaw, Lena was related to Ben Smith's wife Celia.There were six children (the first two were from Lena's previous marriage). There may also be a Jake Smith from the previous marriage. Dave Smith's mother Ida Smith was born in Germany.
