The following newspaper article appeared in the The Salina Journal on Feb 26, 1963, page 11;"The late Sam Smith, Salina, once played violin with the Jan Garber orchestra. The group played Sunday at the annual Isis Temple Potentates Ball at the Temple. Smith was in the orchestra from 1923 to 1928. He was a brother of Jake and Ada Smith, of the Smith Clothing Company."
