The following obit appeared September 21, 1969, page 33 in the Salina Journal:"Ada Smith, 71, Gold Key apartments died Saturday of cancer at Asbury hospital. She had been in failing health since she broke a hip 3 years ago.
She was born June 23, 1898, in Joliet, Ill. She came to Salina from Chicago, Ill. in 1916 to help her mother raise 4 younger brothers and sisters and to operate the Smith Clothing store. She had continued to assist her brother, Jake, and late brother, Sam, with the store. Miss Smith was a member of the Jewish faith. Survivors are 2 brothers, Jake, Bell Hotel, and Ben, Wichita; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Ethel Pennell, Pasadena, Calif. and Mrs. Esther Peltzman, Kansas City, Mo. Funeral will be at 11:30 am Tuesday at Lewis Memorial Chapel, Kansas City, Mo., Rabbi Gerson Hadis officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo. Rush Smith funeral home is in charge of services. The family suggests memorials to the Cancer fund."
