Death
ALBEMARLE - Ernest Theodore Furr, 79, of 315 Park Ridge Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord. Born Sept. 21, 1926, in Stanly County, Mr. Furr was a son of the late Phillip Monroe Furr and Laura Jane Furr. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he had been a truck driver for Alcart. Mr. Furr was a member of Canton Baptist Church. He enjoyed experimenting with growing vegetables and always had a fruitful garden. Preceding him in death were first wife Carolyn Sally Hatley Furr, second wife Ruth Horton Furr, daughter Gina (Furr) Huneycutt and one stepgrandson. Survivors include son Allan Furr of Albemarle; stepson Gary Horton of Harrisburg; daughters Elizabeth (Furr) Swicegood of Banner Elk, Margaret (Furr) Miller of Richfield and Hazel (Furr) Lowder of Albemarle; brothers Homer Furr and Jay Dois Furr of Albemarle; sisters Doris Furr of Albemarle and Mary Lou Eudy of Locust; 10 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. Visitation : 6-8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home. The family will also meet at the home of granddaughter Denise Smith, 2124 Fleetwood Drive, Albemarle. Service : 11 a.m. Saturday at Canton Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Mabry and the Rev. Tommy Allman officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. Memorials : Canton Baptist Church, 24615 Endy Road, Albemarle, NC 28001.
