Death
LANDIS -- James A. Furr, 86, of Concord, died yesterday. He had been seriously ill for about a week and in poor health for three years. Born March 25, 1869, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Adam and Sally Widenhouse Furr. He was educated in Cabarrus County schools and the Albemarle Academy. He was a school teacher for several years, and later a farmer. He was a member of the Mount Olivet Methodist Church of which he was a steward for 20 years. Surviving are the widow, one son, four daughters, including Mrs. W. W. Sloop Sr. of Charlotte and three brothers. Funeral services were conducted today at the Mount Olivet Methodist Church by the Rev. M. C. Ellerbe, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Hamilton Witter. Burial was in Center Grove Methodist Church cemetery near Locust Level.The Charlotte News, Charlotte, North Carolina, June 28, 1955
