Jonah Will FURR

J. W. Furr was Jonas Willis Furr, son of Adam McDonald Furr and Sarah Ann Widenhouse. He married Claricea Armetta Overcash in 1893. In 1900, he was listed as a merchant living in Concord. In 1910, he was living on "Maine St." in Concord and listed as a grocer. He was listed as married but his wife was not listed in the household. There were four boarders in the residence, none of whom appear to have been related to Furr. It appears he was separated from to his wife, who in 1920, was listed as a widow living on Kerr St in Concord. J. W. moved to Texas and married Letha Dixon in Houston in 1918. In 1926, he was listed as a contractor residing on Elysian St. in Houston. In 1930, he was living on Market St. in Houston and was employed as a painting contractor. He died in Houston in 1955.

Death
Relatives and friends in Cabarrus have received word of the deaths of Joey Willis Furr, 84, and his wife, Mrs. Leatha Furr, which occurred within an hour on August 17. Mrs. W. F. Eddlemah, Daily Independent correspondent, reported that she received word of the deaths from Mrs. A. E. Oldham of Route 1, Chanrien View, Texas, a suburb of Houston. Mr. Furr is survived by one son, Arthur Furr, of Severna Park, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Lula Fry of Concord; two brothers. P. M., and A. P. Furr of Concord; two step-children; a number of grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mr. Furr left North Carolina 50 years ago and spent some 30 years in Houston, Texas. His first wife, Mrs. Clarriss Annette Overcash Furr of Cabarrus County, died a number of years ago. He was born March 27, 1871, son of Adam MacDonald Furr and Mrs. Sarah Ann Widenhouse Furr.The Daily Independent, Kannapolis, North Carolina, September 28, 1955
