The Concord Times says: “Martin M. Furr, a Populist Justice of the Peace of No. 9 township, and other parties were indicted and convicted this court for compounding a felony, or covering up crime. The case was on trial part of Tuesday and Wednesday. The jury was out about an hour and returned a verdict of guilty. The sentence of the court was that Esquire Furr be fined $50 and be deprived of his office. He is forever debarred from holding any office of trust or profit in the State forever.”

Death
CONCORD. — Funeral services were held today for Martin Furr, 76, who died yesterday at the Cabarrus Hospital. His death was ascribed to apoplexy. He was a retired merchant of Concord. The rites were conducted by the Rev. R. L. Bass and the Rev. T. W. Hager and interment followed in Concord. A native of Cabarrus County, Mr. Furr was the son of Adam and Sally Furr. His wife was Miss Nannie Tucker before marriage. Mr. Furr leaves a son, Horace Furr, a daughter, Mrs. J. M. Talbert, both of Concord, and seven grandchildren.The Charlotte News, Charlotte, North Carolina, January 27, 1940
