OAKBORO - Mr. Rufus Lafayette Furr 86, retired carpenter, died Jan. 9, 1991, at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle. Funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Visitation is 7 to 8:30 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. Survivors are his wife, Emma; sons, Malcolm Furr, Bob Furr; daughters, Mrs. Maxine Creed, Mrs. Billie Jean Kelbaugh, Mrs. Peggy Teeter, Mrs. Libby Sandifer, all of Charlotte; brother, Clyde Furr of Stanfield; sisters, Mrs. Pauline Helms of Monroe, Mrs. Eunice Honeycutt.Obituary published in The Charlotte Observer on Jan. 11, 1991.
OAKBORO — Rufus Lafayette Furr, 86, of Route 1, Big Lick Stanfield Road, died at 9:55 pm on Wednesday, Jan 9, 1991, at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church, conducted by Elder Rom Kerley, Elder Larry Austin and the Rev. Larry Linker. Burial will be in Big Lick Baptist Church cemetery. The family will be at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, on Friday night from 7 to 8:30. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service on Saturday. Born March 24, 1904, in Stanfield, Furr was a son of the late George and Annie Helms Furr A retired carpenter for Vinson Realty Co. of Charlotte, he was a member of Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Emma Huneycutt Furr, two sons, Malcolm and Bob Furr, both of Oakboro, four daughters, Maxine Creed, Billie Jean Kelbaugh, Peggy Teeter and Libby Sandifer, of Charlotte; A brother, Clyde Furr of Stanfield; two sisters, Pauline Helms of Monroe and Eunice Honeycutt of Oakboro; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
