Death
George Robert “Bob” Furr, 76, of Big Lick Road, Oakboro, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at his home. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Big Lick Baptist Church, Oakboro. The Revs. Jeff Springer and Tom Barnes will officiate. Burial will be in Oakboro Cemetery. The family received friends at Stanly Funeral Home, Inc. from 6-8 p.m. Saturday. The body will remain at the funeral home until taken to the church to lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the hour of the service.Born Nov. 22, 1930, in Mecklenburg County, he was a son of the late Rufus and Emma Huneycutt Furr. He was a hardworking, honest man who worked as a contractor. He was a veteran of the US Army who served during the Korean Conflict. He loved his Lord and was a faithful member of Big Lick Baptist Church for 53 years, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed all sports and was a devoted and loving husband, daddy and Paw Paw who treasured every moment spent with his family, especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy.He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Furr, and two sisters, Maxine Creed and Libby Benfield. He was married to Margaret Teeter Furr of the home. Other survivors include four daughters, Sandra F. Chance and husband, Jeff, of Albemarle, Patricia F. Stevens and husband, Bob, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Bobbie F. Almond and husband, Randy, and Melissa F. Parker and husband, Tony, all of Oakboro; a brother, Malcolm Furr and wife, Aleen, of Oakboro; two sisters, Billie Jean Kelbaugh and husband, Calvin, and Peggy Teeter Burleson and husband, Jerry, all of Charlotte; and eight grandchildren, Robbie Huneycutt, Mallory Chance, Josh Almond, Tyler Almond, Casey Stevens, Kerri Stevens, Brady Parker and Kelsey Parker.
