Death
Bertha Mae Brooks, 66, died early Tuesday morning at her home on Route 2, Stanfield, following a period of declining health. Funeral rites were held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Philadelphia Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, Rey. Melvin Curlee. Interment was in the church cemetery. Born February 3, 1895 in Stanly County, Mrs. Brooks was the daughter of the late George F. Furr and Anne Helms Furr. Her husband, Claude J. Brooks, survives along with one son, James N. of Stanfield; one foster daughter, Mrs. Bud Smith of Oakboro; eight grandchildren; six sisters, Mrs. Zeb Huneycutt, Mrs. Thomas Drye, and Mrs. Lonnie Huneycutt, all of Oakboro, Mrs. Sam Huneycutt of Flint, Mich., Mrs. Marshall Love of Stanfield, and Mrs. Kelly Helms of Monroe; and three brothers, Claude Furr and Clyde Furr of Stanfield, and Rufus Furr of Oakboro.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, January 5, 1962
