Obituary from the Hendricks Pioneer in 1959:
Lars Digre Laid to Rest Sunday
Funeral services were held at Calvary Lutheran church on Sunday, March 15 for Lars Digre, one of the long time residents of the local community. Rev. Harold Schafer was in charge of a family service and the last rites. At the family service, Mrs. Teddy Mathison and Mrs. P. C. Hinsverk sang "Take My Hand, Precious Lord", and "Beyond the Sunset". Musical numbers at the funeral service included a vocal solo in the Norwegian language by Mrs. Mathison, with Mrs. Carvell Johnson accompanying, and two numbers, "That Beautiful Land" and "Abide with Me", by the male quartette with Mrs. Hans Hegstad accompanying.
Pallbearers were Theo. M. Mathison, Nathan Thoreson, Eddie Ronning, Adolph Trooien, Eddie Pederson and Sander Thoreson. Interment was in the East Cemetery.
Lars Digre was born in Singsaas, Norway, on July 3, 1870, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Pederson (should this have been Mr. and Mrs. Esten Pederson? BAJ) The family lived in that country for a few years, when his father came to America, and a time later was followed by the mother and three children, including Lars, who at that time was 12 years of age. Since that time he has lived in the Hendricks community He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a long time member of Calvary church.
On July 2, 1891, he was united in marriage to Beret Thoreson. They became the parents of five children. The home was established on a farm three miles southeast of Hendricks. Here Mr. Digre lived until 1954 when ill health came. Since that time he has been a patient at the Hendricks Hospital at various times, and also made his home with a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Randina Digre, and with a daughter, Mrs. Anna Hindoien, the latter for about two years. For some time prior to his death, he had been hospitalized.
Mr. Digre was an early day resident of the Hendricks area and among the events with which he was associated was the laying of the railroad tracks to Hendricks. He took work of this type during the slack season on the farm which he operated.
Those who survive are three daughters, Mrs. Anna Hindoien of Hendricks, Mrs. Lars Aune of Marshall, MN and Mrs. Ingvald Modtland of Ivanhoe, MN, along with 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife and two sons, Edgar and Nels.
