Individual Details
Esten Persen Digre
(21 Feb 1848 - 9 Dec 1942)
In America was known as Esten D. Pederson
From: "Dagfinn Refseth"
I wonder if this one could be Lars Estensen (Digre), born 1870, the son of Esten Pedersen Digre and Anne Larsdtr. Engen (Engesrønningen), see Singsås bygdebok vol. 3 p. 109. Lars and his parents went to America in 1884, and three other children followed later, according to the bygdebok. The family name in America was Digre.

Further research by Linda Schwartz........
I think I found them in the emigrant records ..... the names are spelled not as we would expect. Emigrating April 14, 1884:
Austen Peders. 36 from Singsaas to Canby, MN
Ane Peders. 45
Lars Austens. 11 (which became Lars E. since his father's name was actually Esten)
Peder Austens. 8
Bereth Austens. 4
Jon Austens. 1,5
Matches up with the family names on page 109. The bygdebok lists Lars birth year as 1870. They lived on the farm Engesrønningen which is where the wife, Ane Peders., was from. Esten Person Digre, b. 1848 was from Digre Utstu.
Family traveled on the ship Tasso with destination shown as Marshall MN April 14, 1880 per document "From Singsaas to America" by Jens Winsness, Spring 2007 Masters Thesis. The same document lists these people destination Canby Minn on the ship Hero.

Obituary as printed in the Hendricks Pioneer:
Esten Pederson was born in Singsaas, Norway, of the parents, Peder Christiansen and Berit Estendatter Fjeset, on February 21, 1848. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On Nov. 15, 1872, he was united in marriage to Anne Engesronning. To this union five children were born, two of whom preceded him in death.
In the year 1884, he came to America with his family and has been a resident of Lincoln County for almost sixty years.. Nearly all these years he spent on his farm east of Hendricks.
Mr. Pederson was blessed with a long life and good health, and it was only the last three or four weeks that he was confined to his bed most of the time.
He passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1942, at four o'clock in the afternoon at his home. He had reached the age of 94 years, nine months, and seventeen days.
He leaves to mourn his departure, three children: Lars Digre, Christ Pederson, and Bertha (Mrs. Nels H.) Ronning, and one foster-son (really step son, BAJ), Peder P. Sagmoe Sr., all of Hendricks, and twelve grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 14th, at the home at one-thirty o'clock and at the Lutheran Free church at two o'clock, Rev. M. A. Erickson officiating. The choir rendered two songs, "Face to Face with Christ", and "Abide with Me". A duet was rendered by Mrs. Pete Hinsverk and Mrs Theodore Mathison. Mrs. M. A. Erickson sang "Sagte og Inderlig Jesus nu Kalder" at the home. The pallbearers were Pvt. Eddie Pederson, Nels Pederson, Nils Digre, Eddie Ronning, Pete Sagmoe, Jr., and Theodore Thoreson. Burial was made in the East Cemetery. Many memorial gifts were received in memory of the deceased. May the Lord bless the memory of Mr. Pederson for us all.

Esten (misspelled Austen) and Anne (misspelled Ane) Pederson are listed in the Emigrants from Trondheim 1867-1930, with their children, Peder, Lars, Bereth and Jon. They left Norway on 14 April 1884, according to this record, but the marks (14.04!!.18) beside their names indicate information must be wrong for obvious reasons. His declaration of intention says they came in 1885. This emigration record notes they came on the dampskibe Hero, on the Allan line, but the Hero was owned by the Wilson line. This ship most likely was not the one on which they traveled to America, it would have just been a feeder ship, taking them to England. Esten's declaration of intention also says they landed at Detroit, so probably came via Quebec, Canada. On the emigrants list, their destination was noted as Canby, MN.
His Declaration of Intention filed in the Lincoln County Court House on 1 Nov. 1888, says he came to the US in June of 1885 and landed at Detroit. A family history written by Berit Lokkesmoe in Norway and sent to family here says they came in 1884.
Esten and Annie purchased their land on 2 Feb. 1896 from John S. and Eva Norton Tucker, who had purchased it from the railroad. The location is E1/2NE1/4 21-112-46 in Lincoln County, MN. In 1937, he deeded that land and SE1/4SE1/4 16-112-46 to John E. and Christian Pederson, and at this time, he was a widower. The Lincoln county recorder did not find a Final Receiver's Receipt or Homestead Patent running to Esten
