William Pickett

"William of Fauquier, the second son of John and his wife, Mary, was the head of a large and prominent family who lived near Warrenton, Virginia, in Fauquier County. Much has been written about this family. He married Elizabeth Cooke who became famous in her own right for her efforts in providing food for the soldiers during the Revolutionary War. William Pickett was born in the year 1700 and died in 1766 on his estate in Fauquier County. He and his wife, Elizabeth, had seven children as follows: Martin Pickett; William Pickett, who married Lucy Blackwell and who served with distinction in the Revolutionary War as major; John, who was a divine in the Baptist Church at Culpepper, Virginia; Reuben Pickett, also a Baptist preacher; Mary Ann, who married Rev. William Marshall; Sarah Pickett, who married James Withers; George, of Richmond, Virginia, who was born 1753, served as drummer boy in the Revolutionary War, married Margaret Sanderson Flint, a widow, and was the grandfather of General George E. Pickett, of CSA of Gettysburg fame." ("James Pickett, Anson Patriot" by Grady R. "William Pickett of Hamilton Parish, Fauquier County, Virginia, died 1766; made will September 26, 1766, and the same was probated November 24, 1766; names as executors his sons Martin and William, his wife Elizabeth, and his children John, Reuben, Martin, William, George, Sarah and Mary Ann. He was born in Essex County, resided for a while in King George and in King and Queen County, and at the time of his death was living in Fauquier County. He married Elizabeth (she died after 1777) Cooke, daughter of Hon. Mordecai and Elizabeth (Buckner) Cooke, of Gloucester County, Virginia. (See Cooke lineage.)"
