"George Pickett, of Richmond, Virginia, was born 1753, served as drummer boy in the Revolutionary War, married Margaret Sanderson Flint, a widow, and was the grandfather of General George E. "Col. George Pickett of Richmond, Virginia, born 1753, served with distinction as drummer in Capt. Benjamin C. Spiller's (also designated Capt. Augustine Tebb's) Company, 2nd Virginia Regiment, commanded at various times by Col. Gregory Smith and Col. Williams Brent, Revolutionary War. He was a merchant at Richmond, of the firm Pickett - Pollard & Johnston, and a staunch Churchman. Many of his descendants spell their name Picket, with but one "t."
