("James Pickett, Anson Patriot" by Grady R. Moore, from PATRIOTS OF THE REVOLUTION WITH DECENDENTS IN ANSON COUNTY, page 28; originally from The Messenger and Intellingencer (newspaper); compiled by the Thomas Wade Chapter, DAR, Wadesboro, NC. Wadesboro, Anson County, North Carolina Library.)
John Pickett's will was probated 19 January 1765 in Caroline County, Virginia.
(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Much of the information I have comes from Grady R. Moore's work and Stella Pickett Hardy in COLONIAL FAMILIES OF THE SOUTHERN STATES OF AMERICA, 1911. In the original work by Mrs. Hardy, she gives the beginning generation as George Pickett, son of William and Anne Pickett. In a reprinted Second Edition from Genealogical Publishing Co, Inc., Baltimore, 1958, Mrs. Hardy has made handwritten revisions and additions, especially on the Pickett family. In this work, she replaces the first generation with " John Pickett, son of Henry and Sarah Pickett." This is in agreement with the information given by Grady R. Moore. Apparently, the changes were made due to information in Henry and John Pickett's wills.)
