Death of Horace Ivory.
Horace Ivory was born in Massachusetts, Sep. 5, 1806 and moved with his father's family to New York in early childhood. He was married in 1831 and in 1834 united with the Methodist Church. He came to California in the spring of 1852, returned to New York in 1855, went to Colorado in 1864, engaging in mining enterprises, and came to California in 1875, since which time he lived in Lodi until his death. His last and fatal sickness commenced on Tuesday and appeared to be at first congestion of the lungs. He became rapidly worse and on Friday it was evident that the end was close at hand. Death ensued on Sunday morning March 12, ending life in his seventy fifth year. Tuesday afternoon, despite the inclement weather, a large concourse of sorrowing friends with the bereft relatives, assembled in the Methodist church. The funeral ceremonies were impressively opened by the entrance of the pall bearers with the dead, followed by the mourners and slowly lead by Rev. C.B. Haswell, reading a number of beautiful and appropriate Scripture passage. Feeling discourses were preached by Rev. C.S. Haswell and Rev. W.C. Stewart, in which unaffected and simple justice was deed the memory of a truly good man. The church was solemnly draped for the occasion. Mrs. Jas. Smith, the Misses Florence Russell and Mary Taylor and Messrs. D.L. Spotts and W.C. Green sang with their usual sweetness. Messrs. Thomas Fairchilds, E. Lawrence, Robert Taylor, Lt. Ellis, J. Baker, and S.O. Sollars performed the duties of Pall-bearers. The interment took place at Live Oak Cemetery. An aged wife, two daughters and three sons survive the deceased. A son and daughter, Mr. C.O. Ivory and Miss Sarah Ivory, also their widowed mother, reside in Lodi. Deep felt sympathy for the relatives pervade the community.

In 1906 Horace's body was moved from Live Oak Cemetery to Rural Cemetery in Stockton, which is 25 miles away.
