15 Dec. 1838 Abraham Tunison sold to John Ivory for $250 land situated in the Township of Hadley, County of Lapeer, State of Michigan described as W of NW quarter of Section 10 T6N of R9E. Eighty acres which Tunison owned as two separate land grants from the U.S. government in 1835 and 1836. Recorded 28 Aug 1840.

Sept. 23 1841 John and Phidelia Ivory of the town of Elba, county of lapeer, State of Michigan sold to William D. Potter of the same place for $100 twenty acres described as N part of the W of the SE quarter of Section 32 T7 N of R9E in the State of Michigan.
Recorded 5 January 1842.
In 1850 John was a farmer in Elba, Lapeer County, Michigan living with his wife and four children. (5th page of Elba township)
In 1870 the value of John's farm was $10,800. Only his daughter Mary was at home along with his wife, and his brother Franklin.
John's age on his gravestone is 60 Years 9 mos. John was transferred to Greenwood 7 June 1889. He is described as a farmer born in New York. His parents were John Ivory and Betsey Page.
