Tinkham, page 294. Charles O. Ivory a Stockton blacksmith moved to Woodbridge in 1867 and opened a grocery store. This made the third grocery store in the town.
Tinkham, page 304-05. Lodi: In Oct 1870 Charles O. Ivory of Stockton put up a two-story building for his bride. By 1880 the population of Lodi was 800. Ivory and Greene who sold general merchandise was one of the businesses.
Tinkham, page ?. In 1853 Charles came to California and settled in Stockton where he remained until 1867 when he removed to Woodbridge and engaged in business with John M. Burt in 1868 he moved to Lodi where he built the first business block and was the first merchant. Later the partnership was dissolved and Mr. Ivory continued in business until 1886 when he sold out.

Cemetery records state Charles Oscar died at age 55.

C.O. Ivory Suicides. At about 11 o'clock last Tuesday night C.O. Ivory, the Lodi merchant, shot and killed himself with a revolver, placing the muzzle in his mouth. The suicide was committed in the loft of his barn just as his son and another young man in search of Mr. Ivory entered the lower floor. Wednesday an inquest was held on the body and the Coroner's jury found that the deceased came to his death by a pistol shot fired by himself, while laboring under a fit of temporary insanity.
