Individual Details

In the Porterville Library I found a book with family group sheets where the information was provided by Veda Dillon McCoy. Veda was given permission by her guardian, Henry Murphy, to marry, as she was only 15. A note in that book says that "Robert" McCoy was Mrs. Murphy's son and they were neighbors of the Dillons at Milo. Marriage certificate calls him Robert, but Veda calls him Robins. In the 1900 census, however, Henry Murphy's wife was Viola A. born Ohio and Robert McCoy was listed as a servant whose parents were born in Missouri. I have now learned that the Murphy's took in at least some of Oliver McCoy's children after they were orphaned, although they did not formally adopt them.
