Note that Lemoore was in Tulare County at the time of John's death andis now in Kings County. Information on his death and burial fromCemetery Index. It notes information from "Phipps DR Book: Died aged 5yrs 3 mos 8day. Male. Native of Calif. Last residence, Lemoore." Theage at death would have made a June 6 birthdate, but Philena Murphy'smemo says May 6, so have used that.

Note in Visalia Delta on Friday, Sept. 30, 1881, transcribed andpublished by Steve Williams, located at Tulare Library, says:
"DIED - In Lemoore, September 22nd, 1881, Johnnie, second son of Mr.and Mrs. Oliver McCoy, aged 5 years and 4 months." Note that the datehere is different, but it is the same as the date of death in thearticle above, so possibly a typo on somebody's part. Also, age wasstretched to 4 full months. Left it to match cemetery book.
