A series of letters from Olyve to her aunt Ida Jane Fallman are in the possession of Gladys Luck. Copies in possession of the author. Beginning 09 Apr 1923 and ending May 30, 1923. They were trying to document, if possible, that Robins McCoy's brother James was the James McCoy who left a $22,000,000 estate in CA. Information obtained consisted of:
Olyve's address was 1025 Jackson St., Topeka, KS.
She spoke of "Mama Abbott" speaking of hearing Grandpa McCoy say he had a brother James.
On Apr 9 she said she hadn't written to anyone except Johnnie McConnell yet.
Also told Ida Jane "I wrote to you some time ago and used the name Idell Price but you didn't write anything very definite. This time write every thing you know and go before a Notary Public and send a sworn statement if you will."
She said she used to correspond with Cassie when she was a kid and lived in Stockton.
Also she was 8 years old when she saw Ida Jane last and "shall be 35 years old the 19th of this month."
She signed this letter Your Niece, Olyve Abbott Jackman.
Letter of Apr 19 said that because she was afraid of being made fun of, she didn't want to write to Ida Jane first in her name.
She said "I must say, tho, Auntie, there are some of the McCoy tribe I would just as soon not be the bearer of any good news as they have always did all they could to make me and my brothers & sisters out to be somebody to be looked down on or picked at and I guess if the truth was known the property that my Daddie left helped to swell theire own pockets. I have been told my Dad just squatted round on land and fished & hunted a little to keep the pot boiling but I don't believe that as we found out the year my Dad was killed he paid big personal taxes so I guess he had something. Now I haven't written to any one about this only Johnnie and I didn't tell him any thing certain. I thought as Grandpa was with him when he got his pension he'd know something but his wife wrote that she thought you had the pension papers."
Said "I've got 3 kiddies - a boy 9 years, two girls, 5 & 3."
She did sewing for money and said she nursed for a while there in Topeka. Had a steady job at $100 a month and expenses.
May 15 she said "we have had so much rain that my husband has been laid off so much that it takes us both to keep the pot boiling. I'd just love to have anything of my father's and think that it was the best gift I'd ever rec'd. I have a slipper that was my mother's and a glass cake dish. I'd love to see you and talk to you about my folks. The McConnell's would never tell us any thing."
On May 24 she said "I wish you'd write and tell me all about my mother. I guess you know a lot about her we don't know, where she was from, and her name and age and all you can think of."
On May 29, she said she wanted to send a letter to Frank and one to Mama Abbott.
The death certificate and statement from Philomena Murphy indicates that her name was spelled Olive. It appears that she chose to spell it Olyve when writing it herself.
