Celebrate 50th Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. John Staberg celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Friday evening, November 20, 1936. About 100 guests attended a dinner given in their honor by the citizens of Lakeland at the Lakeland Community hall. The dinner was served in the main dining room and the bridal party with their sons and wives and daughters and husbands and a few close friends were seated at a long table.
The centerpiece was a three-tiered wedding cake, at either side were bouquets of golden colored chrysanthemums. The remaining guests were seated at smaller tables placed throughout the room. After everyone had been served the company assembled in the main auditorium where a table had been placed and held the beautifully decorated wedding cake. Mr. and Mrs. Staberg amid the strains of a wedding march played by Mrs. A. G. Scullin, pianist, were escorted to their honored places. As the guests rose to pay tribute to the bridal party the Rev. E. R. Savage, pastor of Congregational church offered a prayer and made a few remarks and presented the happy couple with a purse of money and congratulations from all present.
Mr. and Mrs. Staberg then responded by saying what a joyful day it had been and expressing their sincere appreciation of all that had been done for them. The many friends then extended their congratulations and best wishes to the happy pair. The wedding cake was then cut and passed to everyone present followed by a social hour.
Mr. and Mrs. Staberg were married in Trinity Lutheran church, Stillwater, the Rev. Tornell officiating. The only guest present at this time, who attended the rites 50 years ago was Charles Nelson, Stillwater, a cousin of the bride, who was present at the wedding 50 years ago with his parents and was a very small boy.
Mr. and Mrs. Staberg have lived in Lakeland all their married life and are most highly respected citizens. They are the parents of eight children and 21 grandchildren and all were present for the happy occasion.
