You’re familiar with who John and Christine’s children are one of them was John Harold Staberg, who married Roma Mae Cox on Oct. 14, 1928 in Clifford, Traill Co., N.D. They had seven children, Duane Donald, Robert Cox, Dolores Mae, Harold Leroy, Jacqueline Roma (my mother), John Seburn and Terry Alan. My mother, John and Terry are the only ones still living.
Duane was born May 18,1929 in Clifford, Traill Co., N.D. He married Joan Hazel Oman and stayed in Minnesota. They had one child that was stillborn. Duane died Sep. 11,1976 in Minneapolis, Mn.
Robert was born Mar. 6, 1931 in Clifford and joined the navy when he was 17. He was stationed in Corpus Christi while in the navy and that is where he met his future wife. When Robert got out of the navy he went back to Corpus Christi to get married. Robert married Mary Ellen “Boots” Zieh in Corpus Christi. They went to Minnesota and stayed for about 10 months. They got there at the end of winter and stayed through the start of the next winter. During the summer she had suffered a heatstroke, so between that and the cold weather that she wasn’t used to, they went back to Corpus. While they were in Minnesota, Robert must have planted the idea of the nice weather in South Texas in the heads of his parents and that prompted their move to Corpus Christi. Robert and Boots had four children Robert Jr., Sharon, Rhonda Lynn and Shirley Ann.
Dolores Mae was born Apr. 14,1933 in Wilmot, Roberts Co., S.D. She married Frank Hicks and moved to Austin, Texas. They had three children together. Dolores had a heart attack and died in June of 1962 when she was 28. She had been born with a heart defect known as “blue baby”. I always thought she was younger when she died and only found out recently that she married and had children Stephen, Jean Marie and Debra.
Harold was born Aug. 6, 1935 in Madison, Lac Qui Parle Co., Mn. He went into the army and went to Vietnam. I don’t know if he was drafted or if he enlisted on his own. When he came home he had hearing and vision problems that seemed to get progressively worse. He never married and he lived with his parents until they both died in 1984. He lived by himself for a few more years until he died Sep. 2, 1987.
My mother, Jaquelin, was born Aug 12,1940 in Dawson, Lac Qui Parle Co., Mn. She worked as an x-ray tech for a while at a local hospital in Corpus Christi. She married Bobby Mitchell on Feb. 12, 1963 in Corpus Christi. My father worked on helicopters at the Corpus Christi Army Depot on Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. They are still living in Corpus Christi in the same house where I grew up. Bobby and Jackie had four children Kristina Kay, Lee Eric, Craig Alan and Jeffrey Scott.
John was born Oct. 29, 1942 in Dawson. He joined the Marine Corps and also went to Vietnam. I remember when I was a kid he would play with my brothers and me, picking us up and swinging us around. He lived in Corpus Christi until about two weeks after his mother died, then he moved back to Minnesota. He never married and is living in Minneapolis and has a form of muscular dystrophy called mytonia dystrophy.
Terry was born Apr. 19, 1946 in Dawson. He married Roma Carol Goodman on Dec. 28,1968 in Corpus Christi and worked at the Naval Air Station also. He had a little land and a few horses. When I was young we used to go to his place and he would give us rides on them. His daughter, Kimberly, used to barrel race in rodeos. Terry also had mytonia dystrophy and died Feb. 24, 2004. His son Chad had cystic fibrosis and mytonia dystrophy. Chad died just shy of his 19th birthday.
