New Light Plant on Krattley Farm
Will Provide Illumination and Power on Big Place North of Hudson
A new Delco-Light plant is to be installed on the Kratley [sic] farm, three miles north of town by Alex Nicholson, local Delco representative.
The new plant will furnish light for the house, barns and hen house. A large yard lamp will also be installed. The power plant will be used to operate the shallow well pump, of 35 pound pressure, and also the washing machine.
The plant is of the newest type which combines all the advantages of an automatic Delco-Light combined with the advantages of a storage battery Delco-Light. It operates from the battery on small loads and automatically switches to power for the heavier service.
The Kratley farm is operated by Mrs. Margaret Kratley and her three sons, William, George and Ulrick. They have a fine herd of high grade Shorthorns and all their milk is sold to the Redman Creamery in Hudson.
Practically everything raised on the large farm, of which some 220 acres are under cultivation, is used on the place.
The buildings are good, and the two silos provide splace for ensilage.
Mr. and Mrs. John Kratley came to Hudson from Switzerland, with their small children, over 50 years ago. They settled on the present place, and built up the present fine farm. When they settled here, there was little more than a shack on the place, and only a small part of the present farm had been broken.
The modern farm, well equipped, and lighted with electricity, is in strong contrast to the conditions that prevailed a half century ago, when the family first came here.
