Marriage
D. D. Furr and Miss Cora P. Tolley, a popular young couple of East Lexington, were married in Washington on Wednesday, June 17, and after a visit of several days in that city went to Norfolk to visit the groom’s brother, Mr. Charles Furr. Mrs. Furr for several years was a successful teacher in the schools of Rockbridge and is quite an attractive young lady. Mr. Furr is a successful young business man of the community, associated in the flour milling business with Furr brothers.The Lexington Gazette, Lexington, Virginia, June 30, 1939
Death
Dorsie DeWitt Furr, son of Edward and Margaret Wine Furr of Augusta county, died Wednesday night at his home at East Lexington after a lingering illness. Mr. Furr was an active member of the Lexington Presbyterian church, a charter member of the Kiwanis club and a prominent miller at East Lexington for the past 40 years. Funeral services will be conducted from the home at 11:00 o’clock Friday morning by his pastor Dr. J. J. Murray and interment will be in the Lexington cemetery. Mr. Furr is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cora Tolley Furr and two children, John D. and Dorothy Furr. The following brothers and sisters also survive: C. C. Furr, Broad Run; R. E. Furr, Charleston, W. Va.; F. F. Furr, Waynesboro; Mrs. W. M. Key, Buena Vista; Mrs. Newton Bailey, Staunton; Mrs. J. A. Cleveland, Staunton and Mrs. D. F.
