Catherine DEARDORFF

(18 April 1771 - 12 March 1849)

Per Chet Peters book: Catherine married a neighbor's son, they started housekeeping in a log cabin built by Michael. Michael was primarily a farmer and it was said that he could make anything grow. He increased his land holdings until he owned "the finest body of farming land in the county". He was a slave holder, but was fair and just to his slaves. He was much sought after for settling arguments, and was called upon to act as administrator of neighbor's estates. He was generous with his children, giving them each $1,500 to get started in life.
