Per Chet Peters Book, They lived on farms in Botetourt, Craig and Pulaski Co., VA. Jacob had considerable literary and artistic ability and aspired to become a commercial artist. He was not encouraged in these ambitions, and finally settled for a teaching career. He was fond of music, and had a good voice. He taught music in a singing school. He developed an interest in his family's ancestry and worked out a family free which was a model and inspiration to the compiler of The Ammen Family.
