Daniel AMMEN

(11 August 1812 - 25 October 1890)

Chet Peters Book, Daniel and twin brother John, inherited the home place with the numerous slaves, farm equipment, cattle, etc. When the slaves were freed, they had not sufficient resources to hire laborers, which restricted their operations greatly. Daniel stayed on the home place and provided a home for his parents. He was a colonel in the VA. militia. In 1876 he sold the farm and moved to Roanoke, VA.
