Death
ROCKWELL — The funeral for Mrs. Ida Furr Hampton will be held on Wednesday at 11 am in Phaniels Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. James Allen, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken from the Powles Funeral Home to the home on Route 2 and will remain there until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral. Mrs. Hampton was born Sept 9, 1885 in Stanly County, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Dunn Furr. She was educated in Stanly County schools and was a member of Phantels Church and the Golden Age Sunday School class. Her husband David Samuel Hampton died in October of 1960. Surviving are three sons, Harold S. Hampton of Lexington and George R. and W. Ralph Hampton both of Charlotte; five daughters, Mrs. John Gryder of China Grove, Mrs. Leland Overcash of Rt. 2 Salisbury, Mrs. Jessie Eller, Mrs. Cletus Soloman, and Mrs. Ben Brown all of Rockwell. A brother, Grover C. Furr of Greensboro; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Hampton 93, of Rt. 2, Rockwell died on Monday morning in Jo Lene’s Nursing Home in Salisbury after being in declining health for several years and seriously ill for three weeks.Endnotes
