Notes
Death
Funeral services for Henry R. Furr, 59, farmer of lower Dixie, Steel Creek, who was killed instantly yesterday morning when his automobile was struck by a Southern passenger train at the East Bland street crossing, will be held this afternoon at 5 o'clock at the Steel Creek Presbyterian church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The little car he was driving, loaded with farm produce, was torn to pieces. Employees of the Lance Packing company, which is near the scene of the collision, ran to the scene. Two negroes rushed him to the Presbyterian hospital, but it was believed he was dead when picked up. The farmer was in Charlotte, it was said, to dispose of his load of farm produce. Since he carried no papers difficulty was encountered in establishing his identity. He was later identified by relatives and the license on his car. The car, it was reported, was knocked 20 yards down the track. The smash happened at 8:15 a. m. Mr. Furr is survived by his wife; six sons, John, Roy, Lem, Ott, Lester, all of Charlotte, and George Furr of Petersburg, Fla, His father, Tiel Furr of Cabarrus county; a brother, Dann Furr of Charlotte, and two sisters, Mrs. Lectie Blackwelder and Mrs. Beattie Barbee, both of Cabarrus county. The Charlotte Observer, Charlotte, North Carolina, July 28, 1937
